Discovering the beautiful Washington Oaks State Park

Sima, Chico (our spirited dachshund) and I  recently discovered Washington Oaks State Park in nearby Palm Coast (about a one-hour drive south of Jax). Located between the Atlantic Ocean and Matanzas River, we enjoyed a peaceful stroll through the 20-acre botanical garden and winding reflection ponds. Shaded hiking paths are sheltered by 200 year-old majestic oak hammocks.

Washington Oaks is also famous for its unique shoreline of coquina rock formations along the Atlantic beach. It’s the perfect spot for beachcombing, tidal pool exploring and photography. Along the Matanzas River side of the park, you can hike, picnic, fish and enjoy watching the Manatees and Dolphins in the river.

Next time we’ll bring a picnic lunch and lawn chairs so we can spend the day!
