Shabbaton with Rabbi Zale Newman

Etz Chaim Synagogue of Jacksonville, FL held a special Winter Shabbaton, featuring Rabbi Zale Newman, a leader in contemporary Jewish education and community outreach. Rabbi Zale led thought-provoking, inspirational conversations, crowned by his warm, engaging style. Scrumptious catered meals were enjoyed at shul; it was a great time to savor a beautiful community Shabbos.

A lively, musical kumzitz Saturday evening capped the Shabbaton and was held at the home of Rachel and Avi Smith. Rabbi Zale’s beautiful, guitar-musical repertoire combined with his heart-warming stories touched the hearts of the community. And the kids had a ball toasting marshmallows over the backyard fire pit!

Rabbi Zale has served in every level leadership position with NCSY over the past forty years. Zale has lectured throughout much of the Jewish world including Costa Rica, Russia, Israel and most of North America. Rabbi Zale’s musical talents allow him to contribute to the field of Jewish music as a musician and songwriter. He also serves as an adviser, teacher, and consultant to a number of Jewish Outreach organizations around the world.

Rabbi Zale was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He studied in Kerem B’Yavneh in Israel, and Yeshiva University in New York, where he studied Talmud and completed a BA in economics. He received his Rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Reuven Silver. He completed his MBA studies at McGill University in Montreal and York University in Toronto.
